The Difference Between Auto Appraisals & Auto Inspections

Auto Appraisals and Auto Inspections

Auto Appraisals and Auto InspectionsWe have had an influx of customers call us in the last week or two asking if we do appraisals in Saint Louis, Springfield & Chicago… We are sad to say that we do not provide auto appraisal services.. Why not you may ask?  Here is our side of why not…

An auto appraisal is often simply a value based off of the vehicle condition… So what does that really mean?  It means that a guy that can compare other vehicles with the one that you are looking at gives it the overall current market value based on year, make, mileage, “condition” and popularity… Notice that the word condition is in quotes… We believe that most car buyers, collectors and enthusiast know enough about what they are buying to put their own price tag on the vehicle… Our favorite quote… “Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it” by Jonathan Reeves… We leave “appraisals” for the guys who want to fight and barter with the insurance companies… We do inspections.

Now, because we know you are smart enthusiast and car buyers we also wanted to suggest that you ask your “auto appraiser” if they lift vehicles to check the underside. An auto inspection breaks down what is going to cost you money down the road.. A true auto inspection includes lifting the vehicle in the air, fully inspecting things like the suspension, steering, brakes, drive line parts and the undercarriage or frame.  An auto inspection also covers the body panels, windows, locks, options, safety concerns, wheels, tires, engine, transmission and even the ash tray…

When you want to know what condition something is truly in before you purchase your next used car, truck, boat, RV or classic car… Give us a call and we will come out lift your vehicle and give you a full list of things we find wrong and things we find right so you will know what you are buying!

  1. [...] An Automobile Appraiser looks at a vehicle with dollar signs on each item… Most auto appraisers work hand in hand with insurance companies or big websites such as Automobile Appraiser Network or something along those lines which feeds them jobs.  There are few and far between actual auto appraisers that work independently.  Auto appraisers often inspect a car for originality, authenticity, market value, diminished value and damage assessment… They don’t always report on the actual mechanical condition and overall condition of the vehicle so they should not be relied on soles for pre-purchase inspections. While auto appraisers are usually fully qualified to provide an accurate pre-purchase auto inspection on most vehicles, the difference of a auto inspector, classic car inspector and auto appraiser lies within what information you need them to provide but note, often auto appraisers like to stay with the older vehicles and just provide appraisals. It’s not too often you catch an auto appraiser stepping into the full classic car inspection and auto inspection realm.
