The Boat Blues by Trey Lewellen
Kevin Dowty was ready to kick off the first week of summer vacation with his wife and kids at the Lake of the Ozarks. Kevin’s brother and his family were coming down from Chicago, and Kevin was determined to make the most of their time together by allowing everyone to experience the lake as it should be experienced – by boat. Specifically, Kevin’s red-and-white pontoon boat that he lovingly scrubbed down the night before the trip.
Kevin planned to give everyone a tour of the lake on their first day together. The adults squeezed the kids and coolers onto the boat and smiled as the girls squealed when the motor started up. As the boys shouted and hooted over the water, Kevin started to show off a little. He wishes now that he hadn’t. Kevin skirted too close to shore and hit bottom. In one second his entire motor was
ripped off and shredded.
Kevin had insured the boat, so he tried to keep his cool and reassure his wife. That is, until he spoke to his agent, who was not with Trey Lewellen Agency, LLC. The boat was covered, but its motor was not. Kevin’s agent had neglected to tell him that outboard motors, like those in pontoon boats, must be insured separately.
“I just could not believe that the man had sold me a boat policy and never told me that it didn’t cover the most important part of the boat!” Kevin told me. “It just goes to show how important it is to be able to trust your insurance agent.”
Kevin’s vacation was overshadowed by the shock and disappointment caused by his inadequate insurance. Don’t let your summer be spoiled by insurance surprises. Set up an appointment with me to examine your insurance and make
sure that the next bump in your road can be an adventure, not a disaster…
